The Complete Patient Journey

From the first consultation to long-term follow-up, here is a clear and transparent overview of every step of your Rezūm experience with Prof. Rabii.

Week 1

Initial Consultation

In-person or secure video consultation with Prof. Rabii. Clinical history review, I-PSS questionnaire, discussion of your expectations and priorities.

What to bring: Previous urological reports, current medications list, recent PSA and creatinine blood tests if available.

Week 1–2

Diagnostic Work-up

Comprehensive pre-operative assessment:

  • Transrectal or transabdominal prostate ultrasound (volume measurement)
  • Uroflowmetry (urinary flow rate measurement)
  • PSA, CBC, creatinine, coagulation panel (PT/INR)
  • Urine analysis (ECBU) to exclude infection
  • Optional: urodynamics for complex cases
Day of Procedure

Procedure Day (J0)

You arrive at the clinic fasted for 4 hours. A urinary catheter is placed. Light sedation or local anesthesia is administered.

The Rezūm procedure takes 5 to 20 minutes. You then rest 1–2 hours in the recovery room before going home with the catheter in place.

What you can do: Walk normally. Light activities. Avoid intense exercise.

Days 1–10

Catheterization Period (J0–J10)

A temporary urinary catheter allows the prostate to rest while the inflammatory healing process begins.

The catheter is removed at a clinic visit on approximately day 10, once spontaneous voiding is confirmed satisfactory.

Normal symptoms: Mild urgency, mild burning, slight hematuria — all transient.

Weeks 2–4

Inflammatory Phase (J10–J30)

The immune system actively reabsorbs the destroyed prostate tissue. Paradoxically, some men notice a temporary worsening of symptoms before improvement begins.

This is normal and expected. Anti-inflammatory medication and alpha-blockers are prescribed as needed.

Weeks 2–4

First Clinical Results (J14–J30)

Most patients begin noticing perceptible improvement within 2 weeks of catheter removal:

  • Stronger urinary stream
  • Fewer nighttime voids (reduced nocturia)
  • Reduced urgency
  • Better bladder emptying
Month 3

Optimal Results (3 Months)

At 3 months, the body has fully reabsorbed the necrotic tissue and the urethra is fully decompressed. This is the peak efficacy timepoint.

Clinical studies demonstrate approximately:

  • −50% reduction in I-PSS symptom score
  • −73% improvement in urinary flow (Qmax)
  • High satisfaction (>94%)
Annual

Long-term Follow-up

Annual check-up including I-PSS questionnaire, PSA, and uroflowmetry to monitor long-term durability.

Clinical follow-up data published for up to 7 years confirm durable efficacy with a retreatment rate below 5%.

For international patients, follow-up can be conducted remotely by video consultation.
